About Beagles
Is This Happy Hound for You?
Beagles are small-sized scent hounds who were bred in England primarily to track small game such as rabbits and foxes. The beagle's short, smooth coat comes in a variety of colors, While the most well known beagle is the cartoon Snoopy (who is black and white), the most common beagle is a tricolor (white with a black saddle, and brown or tan markings. You will also find beagles with one or two combinations of white, black, lemon, red, brown, and tan.
Known for their happy-go-lucky spirit, these little dogs usually look alert with tails wagging. The Beagle temperament is characterized by friendliness, playfulness, and intelligence. Their incredible sense of smell can lead them astray if they catch a scent during outdoor walks, so owners need to ensure that their dogs are on a leash to prevent them from wandering too far. Beagles are still used for hunting today but are also popular as companion dogs. The breed is relatively low-maintenance, only requiring regular exercise and grooming.
